A story about travelling through the area around Luxor to see some amazing sights.

Day 1, friday 9 december 2016.

Program today: Valley of the Queens, Deir El Medina and Medinet Habu.

The day of, among other things, the visit to the tomb of Nefertari.

After a relatively short night's sleep because I arrived at the hotel by 1 am and wanted to leave at 6 o'clock, to be on the site as early as possible, the sequel to the King's journey had started.
When I heard in October that the tombs of Nefertari and Seti I were reopened to the public after many years, I had quickly made the decision and booked this trip and I can already tell you that I did not regret it, thanks to the expert guidance of Olette Freriks from Horustravels.
Since the Marsam hotel in which I was staying is quite close to all sights, it was a short trip by car to the Valley of the Queens.

Valley of the Queens.

Arriving around 6:15 am we immediately went straight to the Nefertari tomb after buying the tickets, where we were alone, something that may have influenced the length of time that we were allowed to stay inside.
Of course it was first said that 10 minutes is the maximum, but after intervention by my guide the 10 minutes became quickly half an hour and in the end we were even 50 minutes in the tomb.
In short, that was really enjoyment and on top it all off I was allowed to photograph and film for a while, something for which I obviously rewarded the guard with a tip (converted 5 euros), for him a few days of maintenance for his family and for a European something that is easy, so what do we talk about.

After the breathtaking visit to the tomb of Nefertari, we also visited of course the other open tombs.
Of these, however, I have not made new recordings because I already had done that extensively in 2012, if you want to see them, click here.

Deir El-Medina.

Then it was a logical step to visit Deir El-Medina, the village of the workers who worked on the tombs in both valleys, because a number of tombs that I have not been able to visit on my previous trip were now open.

First the tomb of Amennakt is visited and then the tomb of Nebenmaat, then the tomb of Khaemteri and finally the tomb of Pasjedu, for an impression of the tomb of Sennedjem I refer you to my previous journey.

So again three things that I can remove from my to do list, which does not mean that I do not need to go here anymore, because that is really not the case since it is too interesting for that.
Meanwhile it is lunchtime and we visit the best eatery at Medinet Habu.

Hmm, the belly is full again and it is time for a re-visit to the temple of Ramesses III.

Medinet Habu.

Although I have been here in 2012, I thought I should visit this temple again, because it still remains impressive.
I was pleased to see that construction and / or repair work was being carried out in some places around the temple and hopefully the temple itself will also get its turn, some cleaning work will be necessary.

If you can not get enough of it, you can click here to see the photos of my visit in 2012.

Well, all nice things come to an end, so also this memorable day, but tomorrow is another day that will show many beautiful things, such as the tomb of Seti I, can hardly wait ..... .
