Day 12, monday 23 april 2012.

Today's program: Botanic garden, Nubian village and Elephantine.

Botanic garden.

Today something else, no tombs or temples but we visit eg the botanical garden, as these gardens are on Kitchener Island, we rented a boat from Captain Habibi, who we had met the night before. He took us by the scenic route to the botanical garden.

After this visit, we boarded and between many islands in the Nile he took us to the Nubian village where someone cared for crocodile orfans, these are found in Lake Nasser and are here cared for until they are large enough to fend for themselves.
Then we continued our journey along the Nile include the island of Elephantine and then return to the starting point.

At 1215 hours it was finally time to return to Luxor for the last two days of this already memorable trip. Because we are not allowed to take the normal route back, at the checkpoint was in fact told that this road was blocked because of a feud between two families, we were forced to take the western desert (an Egyptian highway) and it saved more than 1 ½ hours travel time .
In other words I was right on time at the hotel where I had stayed before namely the Lotus Hotel.

At the end of the afternoon, there was enough time to go enjoy a croquette roll at sandwich eatery called "Broodje Holland", expertly run by Hein. I deliberately say expert because the next few days I have eaten well every time whether it's concernes vegetable soup, chicken soup, satay, a croquette sandwich or a bouncer etc., it was just super. And the good thing was the business is located only about 190 meters from the hotel, in the street just opposite to it. I really do not advertise, but if you ever come in Luxor, then I can recommend this business.
